Your first 6 months abroad can make or break you (here’s what I did)

Hi friend,

When I landed in Australia, I knew my first 6 months would set the tone for the rest of my life here.

So I went all in. Quite literally.

I signed up for every uni club that interested me.

I volunteered in the mentor–mentee programme.

I showed up to events, even when I felt awkward and out of place.

I said yes to every job that came my way.

And I was honestly shocked with the results..

Those connections and experiences opened doors I never imagined:

👉 I was later offered a role as a Student Central Ambassador at my uni.

👉 I built a strong network that eventually helped me find full-time opportunities.

👉 I gained confidence in a country where, at first, I knew no one.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. The earlier you build connections, the better. Most students wait until they “settle in”. Big mistake. (but an opportunity for you ;) )

  2. Volunteering is powerful. It builds your network and makes you feel like you belong.

  3. Confidence compounds. Every event, every person you meet makes you stronger.

Your first 6 months abroad are like planting seeds. What you do now will grow into opportunities you can’t even see yet.

💬 Question for you:

What’s one action you’ll take in your first 6 months abroad to set yourself up for success?

Talk soon,

Priyanka 💛
